James Ohta to be
remembered in Wailuku

James Kimo Yoshito Ohta Sr., who helped to develop Camp Maluhia for the Boy Scouts of America on the Valley Isle, will be remembered in services at 5 p.m. today at Iao Congregational Church in Wailuku.

Ohta, 92, who worked as the Boy Scouts executive on Maui for 42 years, died on May 8 at St. Francis Hospice-Nuuanu.

The family requests casual dress and no flowers. An earlier service was held on Oahu.

Ohta, born on July 1, 1908, in Waihee, is survived by wife Mary; son James; daughters Charlotte Muraoka and Marilyn Johnson; sisters Yoshiko Sentani, Shizue Okazaki and Hanako Fukunaga; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.


David "Gening" "Popo" Ernando Alcos, 88, of Ewa Beach, a retired boilerman at Oahu Sugar Plantation, died May 3. He was born in Cebu, the Philippines. He is also survived by daughter Annette Oasay. Henry David Alvarado, 58, of San Jose, Calif., died May 5. He was born in Hawaii. He is survived by wife Jane; son Craig; daughter Lisa; mother Crescencia; sister Gloria Gonsalves; brothers Ben, Jay and Eufracio "Al"; and four grandchildren. Memorial services will be held on the mainland Saturday.

Baby Carmen Marie Ancheta, infant daughter of Cameron Krael and Dawn Ancheta of Mililani, died May 1. She is also survived by maternal grandparents Julie and Roger Ancheta and paternal grandmother Madge Bos. Private services.

Rogelio "Roger" Bungcayao Baddo, 52, of Waipahu, an employee at the Contemporary Museum, died May 1. He was born in Calayab, Laoag City, the Philippines. He is survived by wife Dolores, son Jason, daughter Desiree and parents Alfonso and Florentina. Janet Griswold Butzine, 82, of Kihei, Maui, a retired teacher for the state of Hawaii, died Wednesday at home. She was born in Winstead, Conn. She was preceded in death by husband Harold. Lynette Sook Tsin Char, 68, of Honolulu, a retired federal telephone operator, died Monday in Honolulu. She was born in Honolulu. She is survived by husband Lloyd C.L.; sons Carlton and Chester; daughters Cynthia Dollar, Colleen and Charlet Lee; sisters Pamaleta Ching, Francine Landeza and Yolanda Boyce; and eight grandchildren.
