Vulcans fall
to Bulldogs

FRESNO, Calif. >> Shortstop Josh Labandeira went 4-for-5, driving in four runs, and Fresno State pounded out 14 hits against three Hawaii-Hilo pitchers in a 12-3 Western Athletic Conference baseball game at Beiden Field.

The Bulldogs swept the three-game series to improve to 33-19 overall, 16-11 in WAC. The Vulcans fell to 5-34, 3-22.

Hilo got on the scoreboard first with a single run in the first inning. Darren Chu drove in Keola Park for a short-lived 1-0 lead.

The Bulldogs tied it in the bottom half of the inning then broke open the game with four runs in both the third and fourth innings.

The Vulcans had 13 hits off Fresno State starter Francisco Nieves but couldn't score, stranding 10 runners.

Hilo continues its WAC road trip with five games at San Jose State, beginning tomorrow.
