The Hawaii High School Athletic Association yesterday secured the Kaanapali South Course on Maui as the site of the state girls' golf championships May 12.

"It's tremendous how the kids are pumped up about what's going on," Hawaii coach Bob Coolen said after his team reached the 40-win mark. "Desi and Flea (Witt) were both on, the defense was getting key outs behind them and we really hit the ball."

Duran (14-4) held the Golden Hurricane (12-36, 2-8 WAC) to three hits in the opener. Freshman April Crowell went 3-for-3 with her fifth home run.

Witt scattered four hits and Kate Judd had a pair of homers to lead the Wahine (40-16, 10-4) in Game 2. Witt (19-10) struck out nine and walked none for her ninth shutout of the season.
