Karin van Hoff scored a season-high four goals, and the University of Hawaii women's water polo team defeated San Diego State, 9-4, in the final regular-season match for both teams at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex last night.

The fifth-ranked Wahine, winning their seventh in a row, improved to 20-7 overall and 4-6 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. Hawaii clinched the sixth seed in the tournament, which the Wahine will host beginning Friday. The Aztecs fell to 18-13 and 4-6.

HPU sweeps 2 from Hilo

Jeremiah Yacap's grand slam highlighted a seven-run seventh inning as Hawaii Pacific defeated Hawaii-Hilo, 7-4, in the first game of a nonconference baseball doubleheader at Hilo's Wong Stadium.

The Sea Warriors (20-24) turned six hits into six runs in the first inning en route to a 14-6 victory in the second game to complete the sweep. Wade Taguchi homered twice and drove in three runs for HPU.

The highlight in the second game for the Vulcans (5-31) was a three-run homer in the seventh by Keola Park. In the opener, Daniel Rhodes went 3-for-3 and drove in two runs.

Vulcans, 'Swords split

Nancy Vega and Kayla Kahuli both homered to lead the Univerity of Hawaii-Hilo over Chaminade, 13-3, in the second game of a Pacific West Conference softball doubleheader yesterday at Palolo Field.

The Silverswords won the first game, 3-1.

The Vulcans earned the split with two big innings, scoring four in the first and three in the third. Hilo (28-18, 13-9) also capitalized on three Chaminade errors for six runs in the sixth. The Silverswords fell to 18-23, 9-13.

Jobe signs with St. Louis

Punahou tennis standout Ikaika Jobe signed a letter of intent Friday to attend St. Louis University in St. Louis, Mo.

The number one player at Punahou for the past three years, Jobe led the Buffanblu to three state championships. He also won the state individual title as a sophomore.

Bowling win for Nakaoka

Grant Nakaoka won his eighth title on the Oahu Junior Bowling Tour yesterday at Naval Station Bowling Center.

Nakaoka defeated Ivan Miyasato in the final, 206-202.

Shaina Carnate won her first title in the girls' division, defeating Terrilyn Ono, 235-192, in the final.

ILH golf tourney opens

The Interscholastic League of Honolulu's golf championships, featuring the top 40 boys and top 16 girls, began today at Makaha West golf course.

Following today's round, the field will be cut in half for the final 18 holes at Waialae Country Club on Wednesday.

Kamehameha and Iolani boys have already earned the league's two berths for the state tournament, based on a 1-2 finish Saturday in the final league tournament. Medalist honors went to the Warriors' Christian Akau with a 69.

Darene Matsuoka of St. Andrew's won medalist honors with a 78.

UH soccer clinic in June

The University of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine Soccer Clinic will be held June 11-15 at the UH soccer field.

There are three sessions each day, 9-11 a.m. for boys and girls ages 5-8, 2-4 p.m. for girls ages 9-13 and 4:30-6:30 p.m. for girls ages 14-18. The cost is $90 per individual, $70 per person for groups of 15 or more participants.
