Boys

>> Charles Rania, Punahou track and field: Finished first in four events at Saturday's Interscholastic League of Honolulu meet at Punahou. He won the 110-meter high hurdles, 300-meter intermediate hurdles, long jump and triple jump.

Girls

>> Tai Soo, Kamehameha girls basketball: Led the Warriors with 20 points against Mid-Pacific on April 10, and 17 points Saturday against Iolani.

Honor Roll

Baseball

>> Travis McGaughy, Iolani: Pitched a complete-game two-hitter against Punahou on April 12. He also drove in a run in the Raiders' 6-0 win.

>> Ricky Bauer, Mid-Pacific: Struck out seven and walked none while tossing a two-hitter against Kamehameha on Saturday.

>> Bronson Sardinha, Kamehameha: Hit two home runs, accounting for five runs batted in to lead the Warriors to wins over Iolani and Damien last week.

Girls' basketball

>> Elyse Umeda, Punahou: Scored 20 points in the Buffanblu's win over Sacred Hearts on Saturday.

>> Trisha Nishimoto, Iolani: Hit for 27 points in games against Maryknoll and Kamehameha last week.

>> Milia Macfarlane, Punahou: Knocked down five 3-point shots in two Buffanblu wins last week.

Track and field

>> Kelly Figuiera, Sacred Hearts: Won the girls' 100-meter dash and long jump at Saturday's ILH meet.

>> Natalie Fujimoto, Punahou: Placed first in both the girls' shot put and discus.

>> Lauran Dignam, Iolani: Won the girls' 400-meter dash with a time of 58.46 seconds.

>> Daniel Inferrera, St. Louis: Blazed to victories in the boys' 100- and 200-meter races.



Now You Know

>> The oldest record in the Hawaii High School Athletic Association track and field championship books belongs to Shari Fox of Leilehua, who recorded a long jump of 19 feet, 212 inches at the 1979 meet.

The oldest boys' records date back to 1983 and are held by Radford's Joey Bunch (1 minute, 51.1 seconds in the 800-meter run) and Leilehua's Koldene Walsh (23 feet, 4.25 inches in the long jump).



Back in the Day

April 18, 1986

>> Down 16-5 after the first quarter, Iolani storms back to beat Maryknoll, 43-39, to capture the ILH girls' basketball championship. Teddi Pila scores 11 of her game-high 17 points in the second half. The victory clinches Iolani's first girls' varsity title in any sport.

April 18, 1992

>> Kamehameha slugger Kalalea Montgomery hits his fourth home run in six at-bats with a blast against Pac-Five. Two days earlier, he launched three homers, including a grand slam, in a 13-3 win over St. Louis.



Strike Watch

>> Including today's scheduled games, the Hawaii State Teachers' Association strike has claimed 37 Oahu Interscholastic Association baseball games, 37 girls' basketball games and two track and field meets.

>> Girls' basketball: St. Francis continues its quest for a fourth consecutive ILH Division-II title as the league's round robin playoffs open.

Saturday

>> Track and field: Finals of the ILH junior varsity championships start at 8:30 a.m. at Punahou.
