Benny Agbayani, Mets: The St. Louis School alumnus is on the DL with a broken bone in his wrist.
Mike Fetters, Dodgers: The Iolani School product did not pitch against the Giants last night.
Chris Truby, Astros: The Damien Memorial graduate did not play yesterday. The game at Pittsburgh was snowed out.

Karl, Ah Yat playing
for Pirates' Triple-A team

Former University of Hawaii left-handers Scott Karl and Paul Ah Yat are teammates with the Nashville Sounds, the Triple-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Karl, a six-year major league veteran with the Brewers, Rockies and Angels, could be recalled soon.

In two starts Karl has a ERAof 0.66 with no decisions. He has given up eight hits, struck out eight and walked three in 1323 innings.

Iolani graduate Ah Yat has pitched in three games, all in relief. He is 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA in four innings.

Mid-Pac golf opens

The 38th Mid-Pacific Open, the first major local golf tournament of the year, tees off tomorrow at Mid-Pacific Country Club.

Beau Yokomoto returns to defend his title against a championship flight field that includes former winners Lance Suzuki, Deron Doi, Brandan Kop, Keith Kollmeyer and Casey Nakama. Yokomoto won last year's event with a 289.

Tournament record-holder David Ishii will not compete because he'll be playing in a Japan PGA event this week. Ishii set the tournament record of 271 in 1986.

The 72-hole event runs through Sunday.

Play is in four flights with a full field of 224 golfers. The field will be cut in each flight after 36 holes are completed Friday.

Warriors slip to No. 2

The University of Hawaii men's volleyball team traded places with Brigham Young in the AVCA coaches poll yesterday.

The Cougars took over the No. 1 spot, while the Warriors slipped to No. 2. Long Beach State, UCLA, and Stanford round out the top five.

Gymnasts leave for meet

Twenty-six female gymnasts from Hawaii will compete in the USA Gymnastics Junior Olympics Region 2 Championships Friday and Saturday in Seattle.

The gymnasts are, at Level 10, Sierra Jacobs, Ina Higashi-Izumi, Erin Geary, Elyse Wong, Quinn Nelson, Lyn Wagatsuma. At Level 9, Keala Fujitani, Megan Harada, Anna Hildebrand, Nicole Little, Alyssa Onaga, Amanda Yee, Renee Beitler, Ashley Borsum, Naomi DeLara, Ana Kahele, Faye Nelson, Chanel Kaneshiro.

Also, at Level 8, Rebecca Cardenas, Kara Mun, Mawie Talion, Lindsey Elliot, Danielle Lum, Cheyanne Vida, Cheyanne Vida, Brianne Nakamura, O'oe Carr.

The gymnasts qualified based on their all-around scores at the state championships. They will compete against gymnasts from Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington.
