KONISHIKI DOES IT FOR THE KIDS

Telly Award for HSN

Hawaii Sports Network has earned its first Telly Award, recognizing excellence in television production, with its first telecast.

The recognition was for the telecast of the Nov. 10 state boys volleyball final aired statewide on KFVE.

Hawaii Sports Network now produces more than 100 hours of television annually including 21 Hawaii High School Athletic Association games and events ranging from bowling and swimming to football and volleyball.

Komine cited

Kalani High product Shane Komine, a junior pitcher for Nebraska, was named a co-pitcher of the week in the Big 12 yesterday.

Komine won his eighth consecutive decision and shut down the conference's second-best offense with a 6-2 triumph over No. 8 Baylor last Friday.

He struck out 11 for his fifth double-figure strikeout total of the season.

Komine, last year's Big 12 Player of the Year, also pitched his fourth complete game in league play and moved into the No. 1 spot in overall strikeouts among Big 12 pitchers with 88.

Surf contest on Maui

The 24th-annual Jerry Boser Longboarding contest takes place at Mala Wharf at Lahaina, Maui this Saturday. The event requires a minimum nine-foot surfboard without the use of a leash.

UH-Hilo offers package

The University of Hawaii-Hilo athletic department is offering a $75 dollar pass which allows admittance to every regular season home game. The pass is available during a two-hour advance ticket sales event on Wednesday, April 18.

Members of the Vulcans' volleyball, basketball and baseball teams will be signing autographs from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. Season tickets for upcoming Hilo sports will also be on sale.
