‘Faust’ production
has hellish wait

STRIKES can be hell, and if the one at UH continues for a couple of more days, it'll be particularly hellish for director Dennis Carroll and his cast of 35 students who have been working on a mammoth production of, ironically, "Faust I & II" since September. Carroll has been planning this for nine years and the cast has invested an enormous commitment to rehearsal. "I" was to have to opened April 19, "II" the 20th, with the two alternating through April 29. Let's hope that if the strike waylays these plans, a revised schedule can be devised...

BLONDES have more fun, and so do millionaires. The first is a supposition put forth by women of the blonde persuasion and the latter just makes sense. Expect "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" to have its highest ratings, as word has leaked out that someone wins the $2 million-plus grand prize this week ... Two blondes were joined by a brunette in sampling the good life in Paris. Maui P.R. exec Yvonne Landavazo Biegel celebrated her 35th birthday in the City of Lights with fellow blonde Chris Friese and Kelly Rau. They splurged at the George IV Hotel with champagne and truffles, Yvonne -- all 6-2 of her -- was a virtual eye-full tower ... The birthday girl and her pal, Kelly, returned while real estater Friese stayed on in hopes of negotiating a few "Sheik" deals ... Krista Allen of "Baywatch Hawaii" is starring in an independent feature called "Peroxide Blonde." Brunette Allen can't find "Mr. Right" in the film, so she bleaches her hair to see first-hand if blondes have more fun. Also in the film are Mindy Sterling of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" and Colin Mochrie, the zaniest zany on "Whose Line Is It Anyway?"...

Downtown Lanikai

WHEN TV-DJ "Downtown" Julie Brown chose Hawaii as a place for her wedding, she got about as far away from "downtown" as she could, tying the knot with Frank Sherman at the Paul Mitchell Lanikai Estate. Creations in Catering saw over the affair, and further creations are up to any Julie and Frank. Harpist Pumehana Davis created heavenly music and guests enjoying a plumeria promenade, leis hanging from the hau trees, and bottomless glasses of champagne. Davis performs at the Hanohano Room for Sunday brunch and Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings...

Alley cats

FORMER KGMB exec Jim Doney is now in Georgia where he read a story about the June Jones auto accident because of the coach's one-time involvement with the Atlanta Falcons. By reading the sports section in the Rome (Ga.) News Tribune, Doney learned that many bowling teams in the area have novel names. There's the Big Kahunas and Rainbow Warriors, for example, neither one doing very well. But they're better off than Team Number 12. It's currently in 12th place in a 12 team league. Another team is called 911, and sounds like an accident waiting to happen. Doney particularly likes the Tuesday Night Tootsie's League, with teams like the Pin Packin' Mamas, Ball Bustin' Babes and Ladies With An Attitude. But his favorites -- and mine -- are the Bowling Stones and Alley McBowl. In a small town, notes Doney, "ye find her merriment where ye may."...
