Patch, with Carrie McDavid, got up close to the
photographer while Dalmatian Abby nuzzled
Jennifer Parker prior to the start of the Woofstock
doggie fashion show. Patch, a pit bull and Dalmatian
mix, wore a reflective safety vest with a retractable
leash, and Abby modeled a silky red "Mae
West" dress.

Homeless animals of the world, unite and go unclothed no more! The Hawaiian Humane Society staged its "Woofstock" fund-raiser Saturday to benefit homeless animals.

The event included dinner, dancing, a live and silent auction, and a fashion show for dogs.

Most of the dog models had been rescued from the streets by the Hawaiian Humane Society.

While many were first-timers on the runway, the show was a success for both pooch and pedestrian.

Nervous excitement filled the air before the models began to strut down the catwalk, or in this instance, the dog walk, in garments from Purr-fect Paws, a specialty boutique at Windward Mall for dogs and cats.

Abby, a Dalmation, graced the stage in a sultry "Mae West" dress.

The dress was a stunning silky red, trimmed with black lace and fully accessorized with a collar of European leather and Austrian crystal.

Spin, a mixed terrier wearing a tie-dyed cap and
electric-blue T-shirt, stayed with escort Kanani
Miyamoto backstage before the Woofstock doggie
fashion show Saturday at the Royal Hawaiian
Monarch Room. Spin was adopted five
months ago by Osian Morris.

Abby had been rescued by her veterinarian, Jennifer Parker, after being hit by a truck as a pup. Abby's owners called Dr. Parker soon after Abby returned home, inquiring about the cost of euthanasia because Abby was in heat and staining the house. Parker adopted Abby, and they've been pals ever since.

Buddie, a terrier mix, was rescued from a trash bin in Waikiki by Emil. Buddie was sporting a football jersey and ready for the big game.

Mazie, also a terrier mix, was adopted from the Humane Society in Atlanta. She is also a volunteer with the Humane Society's Pet Visitation Program and makes weekly Sunday visits to nursing homes.

She was wearing a fleece coat that comes in several different styles and colors based on how your pooch is feeling for the day.

Daisy, a sheltie mix, was wearing a bright orange, fully functional life vest that increases endurance in the water and safety on the boat. Daisy was rescued two days before Christmas in 1999.

Buttons, a miniature pinscher, looked ready for bed in a lavender crushed-velour pajama suit with lace trim.

Tara Nakaji held her Shih Tzu, Orion, before
going onstage during the Woofstock doggie
fashion show at the Royal Hawaiian Monarch
Room. Orion began his modeling experience
sauntering onstage wearing a soft vinyl slicker,
available in a variety of fluorescent colors.

Buttons had been adopted from the Kauai Humane Society.

Chibi, a Yorkshire terrier, was a sight for everyone. She had a take-charge presence, and her confidence shone through as she marched on stage in her aloha wear with a matching hat. She was so small, many had to stand up from their seats to see her.

She was adopted after being rescued by the Kailua Police Department.

Rambo, a little papillon, was traveling in a backpack-style carrier, available in a variety of colors and styles.

Gracie, an apricot poodle, shocked the audience in her skimpy bright pink panties with lace trim.

Peppy and Selina, both Pomeranians, strutted around the stage in classic-looking sweaters made of stretch knit.

The rest of the show included dogs in biker leather, and two others displaying raincoat slickers for those days when your pooch doesn't want to get wet.

The grand finale featured Buttons and Chibi as the bride and groom. The dogs were hyper at this point, and Buttons, as the groom, was ready to bolt off the stage.

And, as can be expected at an animal show, by the time it was over the privileged crowd that paid $150 per person to attend, went wild.

Kawa, a spitz, was escorted onstage by Dickie
Fukumoto during the Woofstock doggie fashion
show. Kawa, a rambunctious youth with stunning
white hair, bounded onto the stage wearing a
neon-green T-shirt and a tie-dyed cap in a
salute to the "Woofstock" theme. When
Kawa was adopted by Colleen Arii, he
was half-hairless after being abandoned.
