If David Ishii had to choose a signature hole for the Pearl Country Club, the par-3, 172 yard No. 16 would be near the top of his list.

"Yeah," said Ishii, who is Director of Golf for the par-72, 6,232 yard layout that is nestled on the gentle slopes of the Koolau mountain range. "It's a simple hole but because of the view you have of Pearl Harbor, it's pretty.

"And you can see everything from that part of the golf course."

It's not a particularly hard hold to play, said Ishii.

In fact, he said it's probably the easiest par-3 on the course. There are no sand bunkers and just one water hazard, which is 10 feet long and 10 feet wide. It measures 171 yards from tee to green for the men and 126 for the women. But it actually plays 20 to 30 yards shorter because everything is downhill.

The par-3 No. 16 plays downhill and tee shots tend to
funnel toward the green. There is a slope on the left side
that banks to the green and the only bad place to
hit the ball is on the right.

"What you want to do is aim more center or left center of the green and just try to hit it high and let the wind take it down to the center of the green," said Ishii.

"We have the most holes-in-one made on that hole every year," he added.

"The reason I think it is (easy) because the green is like a bowl and when they put the pins in the middle, everything kind of roll towards the middle of the green."

There have been 62 holes-in-one at the Pearl Country Club since 1999 and 19 of them have come at the downhill 16th. There were 12 recorded there last year alone.

"Considering all the par-3s, it's probably the easier par-3 we have at Pearl," said Ishii.

holes for courses throughout the state every Sunday.
