Dr. Ferdinand "Fred" Baas, 56, of Hilo, a scientist and professor of physics, died Wednesday at home. He was born in the Netherlands. He is survived by wife Margje; daughters Mirjam and Gerdiene; hanai sons James Shoemaker and David Whilldin; hanai daughter Petri Pieron; and two brothers. Memorial service: 4 p.m. Thursday in the Hospice of Hilo Chapel, 1011 Waianuenue Ave. Call after 3 p.m. Casual attire. No flowers.

Gwendolyn "Gypsy" Bruns Bailey, 70, of Kaaawa, a Hawaiian Telephone Co. retiree, died Thursday in Kaaawa. She was born in Honolulu. She is survived by husband James; son Kenneth; daughter Jaimee Pittman; hanai sister Eloise Bruns; and two grandchildren. Sally "Jeannie" Barraza, 66, of Makaha died Monday in Ewa Beach. He was born in Honolulu. She is survived by husband Ubencio "Benny" Gilmane; daughters Stephanie Daugherty and Sheryl Ah Sam; son Walter Ah Sam; sister Helen Fernandez; brothers Robert and Aaron Layman; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. John "Jerry" Foster, 64, of Aiea, a retired heavy equipment operator for Hickam Air Force Base, died Wednesday at home. He was born in Honolulu. He is survived by wife Elva; son John Jr.; daughter Kimberly; sisters Elizabeth George, Emily Neves, Annie Mendiola and Pauline Eborn; and seven grandchildren. Rosemary Kahalehelelaumiokalani Kaanapu, 68, of Kaneohe, a retired general cashier for Sheraton Hotels, died March 18 in Kaneohe. She was born in Honolulu. She is survived by brother James I.; and sisters Louise K. Fields and Marion K. Sidotti. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 45-150 Waikalua Road. Charlotte Keakahiwa "Dora" Kailihiwa, 76, of Waipahu, a housekeeper for Outrigger Hotels and kupuna for Waipahu and Waiau elementary schools, died March 29 in St. Francis West Hospice. She was born in Waialua. She is survived by sons James and David Kahalewai; daughters Sarah Fale, Charlene Kelesoma, Francine Sanchez, Charlotte Silva and Darlene Gututala; brothers Herman Kahalepauole and David Helela; sisters Ida Tom and Louise Kekahuna; 29 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Nuuanu Mortuary. Call after 8:30 a.m. Burial: 1:30 p.m., Valley of the Temples.

Andrew J.S. Kauanoe Jr., 33, of Washington, formerly of Waimanalo, a truck driver, died last Sunday in Alaska. He is survived by parents Andrew and Charleen; and brothers Joshua and Sean. Hazel Ayako Kishaba, 57, of Kaneohe, died March 20. She was born in Wailuku. She is survived by husband Denis; son Richard; daughter Wendy Hata; sisters Carole Tamooka, Harriet Shibuya, Fujiko Iwamoto, Kay Nakagawa and Clara Yonashiro; brother Robert Shimabukuro; and three grandchildren. Private services were held.

Robert Masayuki Miyashiro, 53, of Kaneohe, a telecommunications analyst for Bank of Hawaii, who died last Sunday in Castle Medical Center is also survived by daughter Stacie-Lynn Perreira. The mortuary spelled her name incorrectly for an obituary that ran yesterday.

Rose "Loke" Newalu Puhihale Mossman, 79, of Kaneohe, a musician, died March 29 in Kailua. She was born in Kaalaea. She is survived by sons Willie and Robert Keao, and Wendell, John and Bill Mossman; daughters Rosemary Keao-Galdeira, Linda Lew, Cheryl Lau, Delphine Mossman and U'ilani DuPont; brother Edward Newalu; sister Martha Rankin; 25 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. Bartolo Saragosa III, 37, of Fort Lee, N.J., a truck driver for Exxon Petroleum, died last Sunday in Kona Community Hospital. He is survived by sons Louis and Scott; father Bartolo Jr.; mother Angeline Brandt; sisters Sandra Rakowski and Marie A. Gladden; and brother Patrick. Private services were held.

Uta Shimabukuro, 97, of Hilo, a Mauna Kea Sugar Co. employee, died Thursday in Hilo Medical Center. She was born in Okinawa. She is survived by sons Kenichi and Herbert; daughters Hideko Kamida, Elaine Oshiro, Peggy Matsuse and Barbara Tanaka; brother Matsujiro Takaesu; 17 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Yoshio Takaki, 75, of Papaikou, Hawaii, a retired Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Corp. supervisor and tour bus driver for Jack's Tours, died Thursday. He was born in Olaa, Hawaii. He is survived by brother Masaichi. Services: 5 p.m. Tuesday at Dodo Mortuary. Call after 4 p.m. Casual attire. No flowers.

Pui Kee Wong, 77, of Honolulu, died Wednesday in St. Francis Hospital. He was born in Canton, China.
