Thrift chic takes
fashion runway

Star-Bulletin

Jill Kuramoto of KITV isn't one for thrift store chic but she found "some very nice things" among the 5,000 garments and accessories being readied for sale at the 14th annual Celebrity Thrift Fashion Show and Fashion Boutique tomorrow.

Kuramoto got a sneak peak as one of the celebrity models who will be sporting new and slightly used merchandise donated to raise money for the Salvation Army. Much of the merchandise represent retail overstock and bear well-known labels such as Armani, Gucci, Versace, Fendi, Mamo, Anne Klein and Ann Taylor.

Items in the boutique include men's clothing as well, and are tagged at rock-bottom prices, from $3 for a shirt to about $25 for an entire outfit. The boutique will be open from 9:30 a.m., closing during the fashion show and luncheon and reopening at 1:30 p.m.

Kuramoto will model four ensembles that she picked out from the boutique. In the aloha wear category, she found a colorful tea-length muumuu; for sports wear, a tan-and-white pull-over shirt and skirt; for work, a red blazer with black shell and pants; for evening, a purple velvet gown.

The event is organized by the Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary of Honolulu, and the money will benefit the auxiliary's charitable programs.
