Romance by
the book?

Learn more about "Love and Relationships" in the guise of becoming a better writer when the Romance Writers of America meet at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Psychologist Eugene Landy will speak at the Aina Haina Library and you don't have to be a member to attend.

Rider on writing

Bhanu Kapil Rider will lead a free writing workshop and read from a couple of her works on April 25.

A British-Indian writer currently residing in the United States, her first book of prose, "The Vertical Interrogation of Strangers," will be out this winter. An excerpt of her novel "Autobiography of a Cyborg" was published last September.

Rider earns her living as an Ayurvedic massage therapist and palm reader.

The reading will take place at 1:30 p.m. in the Biography Cottage, East-West Road on the UH campus, followed by a 2:30 p.m. workshop. Call: 956-3015

Want some free Bard?

Our own, our very own, "internationally renowned" Terence Knapp will present a free performance of some of Shakespeare's greatest scenes on April 23.

The talk will take place at Windward Community College's Little Theatre at 7 p.m.

The program will feature some of what Knapp calls a "kaleidoscope of personal favorites," all related to the theme of time. He describes Shakespeare as "the greatest storyteller known to man ... someone who understands people and human nature better than anyone else."

Knapp has been a notable presence at the UH drama department for more than three decades as a professor, director and actor.

For his portrayal of Father Damien in Hawaii Public Television's fine stage-to-TV adaptation, he won a prestigious Peabody Award. His autobiography, "Hawai'i's Adopted World-Class Actor," was recently published.
