UC SANTA BARBARA won the 26th Verizon Rainbow Easter Baseball Tournament with an 11-inning, 7-6 victory over the University of Hawaii last night. Ryan Spilborghs scored the winning run when the Rainbows failed to complete a potential inning-ending double play on Dave Molidor's grounder to shortstop with the bases loaded.

UH The 'Bows got the force at second, but second baseman Cortland Wilson's throw to first was wide to the left and ricocheted off Gregg Omori's glove.

The Rainbows fell short after tying the score with a dramatic ninth-inning rally.

Down 6-1 in the top of the ninth -- as top seed in the Green Division, UCSB was the home team -- Hawaii tied the score with five runs.

With one out, Matt Purtell singled to right. Cortland Wilson followed with a single to left, with Purtell stopping at second. Gregg Omori then fanned for the second out.

Patrick Scalabrini reached base on a slow hopper when shortstop Jeff Bannon threw the ball past first base, a two-base error that scored Purtell. Danny Kimura lined Garcia's first pitch to center, scoring Wilson and Scalabrini, cutting the USCB lead to 6-4.

Jamie Gonzales replaced Garcia on the mound for UCSB and promptly walked Brian Bock. Jacob Flick, running for Kimura, and Derek Honma, running for Bock, advanced a base on a wild pitch.

Chad Boudon beat out a slow roller to short, scoring Flick. Honma came home on another Gonzales wild pitch, tying the score at 6-6.

The top offensive team in the tournament, the Gauchos erupted for four runs in the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie. The outburst backed the seven-hit pitching of right-hander James Garcia, who defeated the Rainbows on Tuesday.

HPU 13, Kita-Kyushu 9:

The Sea Warriors rode an eight-run fifth inning to their first tournament win and a spot in the White Division championship game against Lewis-Clark State.

Ryan Blood singled twice and had two RBIs in the inning. Wade Taguchi hit his fifth home run of the season, a two-run shot to right, for HPU in the first inning.

Kita-Kyushu finished the tournament with a 1-6 record.

Wichita St. 6, Centenary 2:

The Shockers (5-2 tournament, 19-11 overall) finished third in the Green Division with the win over the Gents (2-5, 12-23-1). Brad Wright gave WSU a 2-0 lead in the third inning with a two-run homer over the right-field wall.

Lewis-Clark St. 13, HPU 0:

J.R. Crider and Norimasa Miyaguni combined to pitch a one-hitter as the Warriors (5-2, 29-7) easily won the White Division championship. The game was stopped after seven innings due to the 12-run mercy rule. Lewis-Clark State jumped on top, 5-0, in the second inning and scored at least one run in every ensuing inning.

Yoshi Kimura doubled three times and drive in five runs to pace the Warriors' 15-hit attack.
