Derek Honma's ground single to center scored Jacob Flick with the winning run as the University of Hawaii staged a dramatic four-run rally in the bottom of the ninth inning to edge Lewis-Clark State, 6-5.

The victory all but guaranteed the Rainbows a spot in tomorrow's Green Division championship game in the 26th Verizon Easter Baseball Tournament.

"I didn't have any instructions," Honma said. "(First-base coach Tommy) Gushiken just looked at me, nodded his head and that told me to get it done. I was looking for anything over the plate and just wanted to put it in play with the winning run on third base.''

The Rainbows (15-18, 4-1 tournament) trailed 5-2 entering the ninth in a game played in front of the largest Rainbow Stadium crowd of the season, 1,773.

Patrick Scalabrini started the ninth with a walk and took second on Danny Kimura's single to left. Cortland Wilson singled to left to load the bases.

A passed ball allowed Scalabrini to score and the other runners to move up a base.

With one out, Jacob Flick hit a slow bouncer to third that Warriors third baseman Nick Walker misplayed as Kimura scored and Wilson moved to third.

Pinch hitter Kevin Gilbride's sacrifice fly to deep right scored Kimura with the tying run.

Matt Purtell's hit-and run-single moved Flick to third. Honma grounded a one-ball pitch to center to score the game-winning run.

The Warriors scored in the top of the first inning when Yoshi Kimura singled to center on a two-strike pitch. He took second on a groundout and scored on Nick Walker's single to center.

The Rainbows made it 1-1 in the bottom of the second. Patrick Scalabrini was hit by the pitch to start the inning. He stole second base, then moved to third when LCS starter Collin Perschon threw the ball into center field on a pickoff attempt. Danny Kimura singled Scalabrini home.

Wilson singled to right with Kimura stopping at second. Perschon's second error on a pickoff throw to second let Kimura take third. But Perschon got Chad Boudon to foul out and induced Brain Bock to ground into an inning-ending double play.

Perschon, a 6-foot-4 sophomore right-hander, settled down and retired the Rainbows in order in the third, fourth and fifth innings.

Lewis-Clark State regained the lead, 2-1, in the fourth inning. With one out, Nick Bullen reached first on Wilson's second throwing error of the game.

Bullen advanced to second on Ricky Osuma's bunt single and scored on Yoshi Kimura's single to left.

UH starter Wakon Childers created his own trouble in the sixth inning by hitting leadoff batter Gabe Stajduhar and, one out later, Kurt Koshelnik.

After the runners moved up on Osuma's groundout to the right side, Kimura slapped a single to center, scoring both teammates for a 4-1 LCS lead.

The Rainbows picked up a run in the seventh. Scalabrini singled to center and took third when LCS shortstop Yoshi Kimura threw the ball into the first base dugout after spearing Danny Kimura's line drive. Scalabrini scored on Wilson's groundout.

UH put runners at first and third with two out in the eighth, but Warrior relief pitcher Wes Hutchison got Gregg Omori to ground into a force play to end the inning.

LCS scored a run in the ninth off UH reliever Matt Le Ducq when Walker doubled and scored on Stajduhar's bloop single over first base.
