Rain postpones
Vulcans-Spartans game

Last night's Western Athletic Conference baseball game between the University of Hawaii-Hilo and San Jose State was postponed due to rain.

The game will be made up in San Jose, Calif., at a later date. The teams are scheduled to play a single game today at 11 a.m. at Wong Stadium.

On Thursday, the Spartans shut out the Vulcans, 7-0. San Jose State improved to 17-12-1 overall, 6-9 in the WAC.

Hawaii-Hilo fell to 4-23 and 3-16.

Aloha Games registration available tomorrow

The registration booklet for the 11th annual Aloha State Games will be available beginning tomorrow.

More than 5,000 Hawaii residents are expected to participate in the competition, which runs June 2 through July 7. Nearly 1,000 medals will be offered in some 50 sports.

Registration booklets will be included in tomorrow's Star-Bulletin. Booklets will be available in most Starbucks Coffee and Jamba Juice locations Tuesday.

Registration booklets also can be obtained from event sponsors Moore's Outlet Store in Waianae, Hawaiian Wireless, HMSA, Ozone Sports, Pacific SportsCare/Wahiawa General Hospital and Young Guns. Online information will be available at alohastategames.com starting April 7.

Aloha Section PGA Scotch 4-Ball opens

The Aloha Section PGA's Scotch 4-Ball Championship opens 36-hole play tomorrow at the Hapuna Golf course.

Rodney Acia and Kevin Hayashi of Hilo Municipal Golf Course are the defending champions. The final round is Monday.

Sea Warriors softball team swept by Aggies

Angie Linsenmeyer's one-out double off the fence started a four-run rally in the sixth and UC Davis went on to defeat visiting Hawaii Pacific, 7-3, in the second game of a nonconference softball doubleheader yesterday at La Rue Field.

In the second game, the 15th-ranked Aggies shut out the Sea Warriors, 2-0, to run their winning streak to 12.

Ashelle Acosta led HPU (28-8), going a combined 2 for 6, with two doubles and two RBIs.

Kern scores four goals as U.S. water polo wins

Hawaii's Sean Kern scored four goals and the U.S. men's national water polo team downed Cuba, 10-6, in the FINA World Championship qualification tournament for the Americas in the Dominican Republic.

The victory gives the U.S. the top seed in July's World Championship in Japan.

Cheer group takes first

The Hawaii Cheer Company's five-member stunt group, the Flying Hawaiians, finished first yesterday in their division at USA Spirit National Championship in Anaheim, Calif.

HCC's Team Haaheo placed second out of 23 teams in the junior division.

Competition continues through the weekend.
