Wahine sweep
in softball

Janelle Gonzales tossed a one-hit complete game and the University of Hawaii softball team completed a sweep of host UC Riverside yesterday with a 2-1 victory in the second game of a nonconference doubleheader.

In the opener, Felicity Witt scattered three hits and struck out seven as the Wahine shut out the Highlanders, 10-0.

Hawaii (30-11) finishes its road trip Sunday with a Western Athletic Conference doubleheader at Loyola Marymount.

Cowgirls win invitational

Oklahoma State rallied from six strokes back to defeat two-time defending champion Arizona for the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational women's golf tournament at Olomana Links.

The Cowgirls finished with the 54-hole event with an 895, three strokes ahead of the Wildcats. Host Hawaii finished 13th out of 18 teams with a 965.

Medalist honors went to Arizona's Natalie Gulbis, who carded a 74-216. Oklahoma State's Christi Canto was a stroke back at 217. The top Wahine finisher was Megan McGuinness, who finished tied for 46th at 238.

Tickets remain for next week's basketball banquet

Tickets are still available for the UH men's basketball banquet Thursday at the Hale Koa hotel.

Tickets are $35. A no-host bar starts at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7:30.

Seasiders lose, tie

The Brigham Young-Hawaii softball team lost to Southern Colorado, 6-3, in the first game of a nonconference doubleheader Wednesday in Laie.

In a game called after five innings due to darkness, the Seasiders and Thunderwolves tied, 2-2.

After playing 24 games in 17 days, the Seasiders will take a break until next Wednesday. BYUH (12-26-1) will next host Pima college in a doubleheader.

Banks Tournament opens

The 19th AYSO Kirk Banks Soccer Tournament, featuring over 2,700 players in age-group division from 8-18, began yesterday at the Waipio Soccer Complex.

Matches run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and tomorrow. Competition on Sunday begins at 9 a.m. with semifinals.

Trojans stop Bulldogs

Uheina Tuihalafatai scored 24 points to lead Mililani over Waialua, 51-36, in a girls' OIA basketball game last night at Waialua High.

Joanna Alfanta led the Bulldogs with 16 points.
