Editor’s Scratchpad

A step in the
right direction?

Political omens can be found in the oddest places.

In a large supermarket, several bins were filled with zori rubber slippers all jumbled together. Some were made in Taiwan, others in China.

Despite the rivalry and disputes between the island off the coast of China and the mainland ruled from Beijing, there was no meltdown in the supermarket bins.

Makes one wonder if Taiwan and China could co-exist in a peaceful manner.

P.S. The zori from China were a tad cheaper while those from Taiwan seemed better made.

Correction: The editorial on the Waahila power line in Monday's paper should have said the additional cost to Oahu resident would be $6 a year, not a month. The Star Bulletin regrets the error.
