Hawaiian, attendants OK tentative contract

Hawaiian Airlines and the union representing its 895 flight attendants have reached a tentative agreement on a new 42-month labor pact, according to a joint announcement today by the airline and the Association of Flight Attendants.

Terms of the agreement, which is subject to ratification by the union members, were not disclosed. But Paul J. Casey, Hawaiian Airlines vice chairman and chief executive officer, said the pact provides for "substantial pay increases."

Union spokeswoman Sharon Soper said in the joint statement that the agreement is "a significant step forward in providing a more secure future for Hawaiian's flight attendants." Hawaiian earlier reached agreement with its pilots, through the Air Line Pilots Association, on a 42-month contract that went into effect Jan. 1. The airline is still in negotiations with its three other unions, the International Association of Machinists, the Transport Workers Union and the Communications Workers.
