Fire rescue crews resumed their search today off Maili Beach Park for a California man missing since Monday night.

Detective Joseph Self of the Honolulu Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division said friends reported 43-year-old Raymond D. Magallanes missing after he failed to show up for dinner at 7:30 p.m.

Friends of Magallanes, who is from San Bruno, Calif., went to the beach Monday where they found his personal belongings on the sand and his car parked, Self said.

Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Richard Soo said the search began at 10 p.m. Monday night. Jet Skis, underwater scooters and a jet boat were used in the search until 4 p.m. yesterday, Soo said.

Fire rescue crews searched the entire shoreline from Maili Point to the area fronting the Waianae Comprehensive Coast Health Center without success, Soo said.

Magallanes was seen walking along the shore and to the bathroom. However, no eyewitness reports place Magallanes in the water, Soo said.

The fire department's procedure is to continue searching for three days, Soo said.
