Star-Bulletin staff

Honolulu Star-Bulletin graphic artist David Swann beat out entries from small and large newspapers across the country to garner top honors in the Press Club of Atlantic City's 67th Annual National Headliner Awards.

The contest is one of the country's oldest and largest that recognizes excellence in the communications industry.

Swann took first place in the Informational Graphics category for a portfolio of work that appeared in the Star-Bulletin last year.

A staff entry from the Los Angeles Times came in second, and Rick Steinhauser of the Akron Beacon Journal took third.

Swann's winning entry included his work on the rockslide in Waimea, the Army's Central Identification Laboratory and the famed 442nd Regimental Combat Team.

The Press Club of Atlantic City hands out awards in 50 categories in print, photography, radio and television journalism.
