Jones goes home

The UH football coach was
released from the hospital
yesterday

Staff & wire reports

University of Hawaii head football coach June Jones has been released from the hospital after sustaining serious head and internal injuries in an auto accident last month.

Jones was released yesterday and was resting at home, according to The Queen's Medical Center.

On Feb. 22, Jones was driving alone near Honolulu International Airport when his car ran off the roadway, crossed about 200 feet of dirt and grass, and then hit a concrete pillar.

The 48-year-old former NFL quarterback and head coach became an island hero two years ago when he turned down a multimillion-dollar contract to continue coaching the San Diego Chargers to take the coaching job at Hawaii in 1999. He led the school, which was 0-12 the previous year, to a 9-3 record.

The team finished 3-9 last season.
