Three police officers on motorcycles were injured this morning after hitting a pole that fell on Pali Highway.

A vehicle headed northbound on the Pali about 4:20 a.m. struck a metal light pole, which fell across the roadway, blocking the southbound lanes of the highway. Police said the vehicle fled the scene.

Four solo bike officers from the Traffic Division were traveling Honolulu-bound. Three officers struck the downed pole.

The officers were taken to Queen's Medical Center. Initially, one officer was in critical condition, and the two others were in serious condition. At about 5:40 a.m. the officers were upgraded to guarded condition.

All lanes on the Pali were closed in both directions after the accident occurred, disrupting rush-hour traffic. All lanes reopened at about 6 a.m.
