It's supposed to be top secret, but actor Adam Sandler and Academy Award-nominated actress Emily Watson have been in Waikiki and Kahala since last week filming a $25 million romantic comedy.

The 90-minute film, referred to by production staff only as the "X4 Project," is so hush-hush that the local crew has not seen a script or a list of the film's actors other than Sandler, sources said.

The plot reportedly has Sandler and Watson's characters coming to Hawaii to get married, to honeymoon or to be divorced, a source said.

Some filming is expected to take place at the Kahala Mandarin Oriental Hotel and Royal Hawaiian Hotel, in guest rooms on various floors and in the lobbies. The only other location has been Honolulu Airport. Filming began Friday and is scheduled to finish Friday or Saturday.

The film, written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, also shot for a month in Los Angeles. Anderson also has directed "Boogie Nights" and "Magnolia." Among Sandler's films are "The Wedding Singer," "The Waterboy" and "Big Daddy." Watson is known for her role in "Hillary and Jackie."
