University of Hawaii football coach June Jones is talking with his family and becoming more alert, his physician, Dr. Neil Fergusson, said yesterday.

Jones remains in guarded condition at Queen's Medical Center following his one-car crash last Thursday. He is breathing on his own and responding to visitors, according to Fergusson.

Jones' vital signs remain stable and he continues to move his extremities. Tests hav shown no spinal injuries.

Jones is expected to remain hospitalized for at least two more weeks.
