Ushijima award
to Murphys

Associated Press

Don and Marion Murphy have been named as the 2001 recipients of the Charles Ushijima Rainbow Service Award.

The longtime supporters of University of Hawaii athletics will be honored during halftime of the Rainbows' final men's basketball regular season home game against Texas Christian tonight at the Stan Sheriff Center.

The Murphys have hosted numerous fundraisers for the UH athletic department.

For the past six years, they have hosted the annual UH Football Pigskin Pigout, which has raised more than $350,000. They've also hosted the Coaches vs. Cancer and Donna Collins fundraisers.

The award is named after Ushijima, a former legislator who passed away in 1992, and is given annually to a volunteer who has given support unselfishly to further advance the Rainbow athletic program and whose efforts have helped the student athletes achieve their goals.
