Sajak, Moore
as odd couple

"Wheel of Fortune" host Pat Sajak and Channel 2 anchor Joe Moore will take to the stage in September to star in Neil Simon's "The Odd Couple" in four benefit performances.

Sajak, who made the announcement earlier this week at the end of a "Wheel" show, will portray photographer and neurotic neatnik Felix Unger; Moore will be sloppy sportswriter Oscar Madison.

In the play, both men are divorced and become roommates. Their conflicting personalities and habits create problems.

The popular 1968 film starred Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau. The equally popular 1971 television show starred Tony Randall and Jack Klugman.

Discussions are under way with Hawaii Theatre executives to use the Bethel Street theater as the venue. Exact dates, tickets prices and the benefit charity have not yet been determined.

Sajak, 53, is a busy guy. In April he'll appear in two performances with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra doing the classical narrative, "Casey at the Bat." Sajak also will be allowed to conduct a number, he said.

The two, buddies since their time in the Army during the Vietnam War, appeared together in Diamond Head Theatre's 1993 "Prophecy and Honor," a courtroom drama about Gen. Billy Mitchell written by Moore. It was Sajak's stage debut.
