Kahoano appearing
in teen magazines

Question: Whatever happened to Ikaika Kahoano of "Making the Band" fame?

Answer: Fans of Ikaika Kahoano can read about their heartthrob in this month's teen magazines, including Pop Star, which has a feature article on the 22-year-old vocalist.

"Ikaika has been having a wonderful time, appearing in all the teen magazines," his mother, Lynette Kahoano, said proudly.

The singer was on Maui last month as part of the half-time entertainment at the Hula Bowl. His father, radio personality Kimo Kahoano, was an emcee.

"The young girls were going crazy," said his mom, who was quick to point out her son is still very much committed to his longtime girlfriend, Malia.

For the last eight months, Ikaika has been living in Frank Sinatra's hometown of Hoboken, N.J., sharing a brownstone with three musicians.

Their four-man band, known as LMNT (pronounced "element") plays pop music and hopes to catch the ear of a record producer.

Three of the musicians auditioned for the short-lived ABC reality TV show "Making the Band," which Ikaika was part of and which he has described as a negative experience. The young singer dropped out of the series before it ended last year.

While show business runs deep in the Kahoano family, Ikaika still has dreams of becoming a pediatrician, his mother said.

Meanwhile, he is playing small gigs on the East Coast and waiting for the big recording break, his father said. "I tell him, you have to stay in line like everyone else."

Ikaika was on the road and could not be reached.
