Oahu home sales continued at a brisk pace last month, with total sales of previously owned single-family homes and condominiums beating the year-earlier total for the 43rd month in a row.

Art Prices were strong too, with the median prices among single-family home resales falling just $500 below January 2000 and the median condominium price up by $15,000.

Figures from the Honolulu Boards of Realtors show 245 Oahu single-family homes changed hands in January, a 23.1 percent increase from 199 in January 2000. The single-family median price, the level at which half the homes sold for more and half for less, was $299,000, down 0.2 percent from $299,500 in the year-earlier month.

Condominium resales totaled 288, up 13.8 percent from 253 in January 2000, and the condominium medium last month of $135,000 was up 12.5 percent from $120,000 a year ago.

Peter Freeman, president and CEO of the 3,500-member real estate association, said the total sales value in January came to $148.2 million, an increase of 24.6 percent over $118.9 million in the previous January.

"This year has started with very strong sales statistics, continuing the trend we experienced last year," Freeman said. The speed of sales in the condominium market was particularly strong, Freeman said.
