Roberts Hawaii taps new president
Troy Iwamoto has been promoted to president and chief operating officer of tour and transportation company Roberts Hawaii Inc. Iwamoto, who previously served as corporate vice president and general manager of Big Island operations for Roberts, is a son of company Chairman and CEO Robert Iwamoto Jr.
PBS to feature Hawaii technology
A monthlong TV series on high-tech developments in Hawaii is due to air nationwide starting tomorrow on PBS' "Computer Chronicles" program. The first show will cover high-tech firms and government agencies on Maui and the Big Island, including San Diego-based military contractor Trex Enterprises Corp., Japan-based biotechnology firm Micro Gaia Inc. and the state's Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority. It will air at 4:30 p.m. on KHET Channel 11 in Honolulu and KMEB Channel 10 in Wailuku, Maui. The four-part series, titled "High Tech Hawaii," will run every Saturday in February.

The union for about 300 workers seeking a new labor pact at the Royal Lahaina Resort on Maui said today it has suspended its existing contract, after the failure of mediation by Maui Mayor James "Kimo" Apana. The International Longshore and Warehouse Union said the move gives it the right to strike after a seven-day period. The union could strike next Friday but has announced no such plans and said it still wants to talk.
