Try a slugger this coffee

Caffeine and baseball come together in Benny Bean 100% Hawaiian Coffee, named for slugger Benny Agbayani of the pennant-winning New York Mets.

To launch the new coffee, Agbayani will sign autographs 2-4 p.m. Saturday at the Kimo Bean Coffee Co. in the Hyatt Regency Waikiki. Kimo Bean, maker of the Benny blend, will issue photographs for signing to the first 100 people at the event. Coffee samples will also be available.

The coffee will be sold beginning Feb. 19 at Kimo Bean stores -- also located in Whalers' Village on Maui and the Hilton Waikoloa on the Big Island -- by phone, (800) 215-2221, or online at www.kimobean.com.

Call 534-0055.

After more than 55 years, Helena's Hawaiian Foods closes on Friday. Owner Helen Chock has been serving laulau, pipikaula ribs and butterfish collars from the same kitchen on North King Street since 1946, but she has lost her lease and must move out.

Chock, 83, says she doesn't plan to retire and wants to reopen in Kalihi. But with all the business in the weeks since she announced the closure, she hasn't had time to shop for a site.

Chock collected a James Beard Foundation award last year when her restaurant was named a Regional Classic, a special designation for locally owned, neighborhood eateries that best reflect the character of their communities. She is one of only three Hawaii's restaurateurs to win a James Beard award, the others being Alan Wong and Roy Yamaguchi.

Champagne on your face

Valentine's Day is around the corner, and Ihilani Spa is serving up some special treats for those who want to pamper their loved ones.

The Ultimate Champagne and Caviar Facial Treatment uses the bubbly beverage to exfoliate and refine skin. Caviar, the spa specialists say, will aid in the renewal of skin cells and improve the surface of the skin. This 50-minute treatment runs $90, exclusive of tax and gratuity, and includes a half-size bottle of champagne as a gift.

The Peppermint Pedicure is a 50-minute treatment that begins with soaking one's feet in warm, peppermint-scented water, followed by an exfoliating scrub and foot massage with a hydrating peppermint cream. The pedicure is $55, exclusive of tax and gratuity.

If both treatments are reserved at the same time, the spa will waive its outside guest fee of $25. The fee includes access to the spa's fitness lanai with weights and workout room, lap pool, fitness and wellness classes and relaxation lounge with steam, sauna and other amenities.

For information, call 679-0079 ext. 2421.

Wild about the Big Isle

E! Entertainment's "Wild On Waikiki," shot here last year, was the highest rated debut for the network ever, so the crew is returning for more.

Shooting on the Big Island will take place March 19 to 30, and will likely include coverage of hula halau, Parker Ranch and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

Beyond the tourist sites, producers are asking readers what's wild about the Big Island. Suggestions should be emailed to ikaikapr@aloha.com by Friday afternoon.
