National honor
for Theocharidis

The UH outside hitter is
named player of week

Hawaii outside hitter Costas Theocharidis has been named AVCA/Sports Imports Division I/II Men's National Player of the Week for his play against Penn State and UCLA last week.

Theocharidis, a 6-foot-3 sophomore outside hitter from Orestiada, Greece, had 36 kills in two matches of the Outrigger Hotels Invitational and a .318 hitting percentage.

He had 14 kills (.448) on 29 swings against the ninth-ranked Nittany Lions on Wednesday.

Theocharidis also had four digs and two blocks in the four-game win.

He made 22 kills on 56 swings, 11 digs and seven blocks in a five-game loss to No. 5 UCLA on Friday.

Theocharidis was chosen as the tournament's MVP.

In leading No. 6 Hawaii to a 3-1 record, Theocharidis is averaging 4.31 kills a game with a .377 hitting mark.
