CEO to head veggie-
burger firm

The former chief executive officer of Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Corp. has been named president and CEO of Gardenburger Inc., the Portland, Ore.-based maker of vegetarian burgers.

Scott C. Wallace's appointment was effective yesterday.

Wallace left Mauna Loa earlier this month after roughly six years with the Big Island company, which processes and markets macadamia nut products. Wallace was based in Mauna Loa's Southern California office.

During his six-year tenure, the company expanded and reversed a trend of declining revenue, Gardenburger said in announcing Wallace's appointment.

Wallace could not be reached for comment yesterday.

"Scott Wallace is the right leader at the right time for Gardenburger," said Ronald Kesselman, the company's chairman, in a statement. "His experience with other food companies demonstrates his successful approach to achieving profitable growth."

Wallace's replacement at Mauna Loa is Darrell Askey, who previously was president and chief operating officer of Sportpharma USA, a sports nutrition company.

The Shansby Group, a San Francisco-based private equity partnership, acquired Mauna Loa last year from C.Brewer & Co.
