Damien second
in cheerleading
national meet

DALLAS -- Two Hawaii squads placed high in the National Cheerleaders Association 2000 Senior and Junior High School Cheerleading Championship in Dallas earlier this week.

Damien Memorial High School finished second out of five finalists in the varsity non-mount division.

Pearl City High School was sixth out of 10 finalists in the small varsity division.

Sony Open spots

The PGA Tour will hold a qualifying round on Jan. 15 at 7 a.m. at the Pearl Country Club for four playing spots in the upcoming Sony Open.

St. Louis loses in Wong tourney

East Lake (Wash.) powered past St. Louis, 62-41, yesterday to reach today's title game in the Walter Wong Tournament.

Graves (Ky.) topped South (Calif.), 46-42, in the other semifinal.

In Interscholastic League of Honolulu boys' soccer, Punahou rebounded from an upset loss to Pac-Five earlier in the week to rout Damien, 12-0, yesterday.

Three players scored two goals for the Buffanblu. For all the prep results, see Scoreboard on C-4.
