Pac-Five pulls shocker
on Punahou

Darin Fajota scored midway through the second half yesterday as Pac-Five opened the Interscholastic League of Honolulu season boys' soccer season by stunning Punahou, 1-0.

Punahou was 10-1-1 last year, finishing second in the ILH to eventual state champion Iolani and just missing a state tournament berth for the first time since 1976.

The Buffanblu have won more state titles (14) than any other team.

In other ILH games, Nathan Silva scored three times as Kamehameha edged St. Louis, 3-2, while Iolani edged Mid-Pacific, 1-0.

In the Oahu Interscholastic Association, Bobby Self netted five goals as Kaiser routed Kaimuki, 7-0.

Kaimuki wins on Lakalaka's Hit:

Neolina Lakalaka rapped a one out, bases-loaded single in the bottom of the seventh to lift Kaimuki to a 1-0 win over Farrington in Oahu Interscholastic Association softball yesterday.

Crissy Moefu pitched a three-hitter for the Bulldogs, who improved to 7-0 with just three regular season games remaining.

Moefu struck out five hitters and walked none in the complete game.

"She made them hit the ball," Bulldogs coach Lene Tausaga said. "And when she needed a strikeout, she got it."

Castle beat Kalani, 8-0, to stay a half-game behind Kaimuki.

In Interscholastic League of Honolulu action, a Tara Yanagihashi two-run single highlighted a five-run fifth as defending state champion Iolani beat host Mid-Pacific, 10-1.

Ianeta Lei -- who pitched a no-hitter Saturday -- Maile Sylva and Stephanie Lum combined for a three-hitter for the Raiders, who improved to 7-0.

Kamehameha blanked Sacred Hearts, 10-0, and remains a game behind Iolani.
