Murph, Miki,
Lila celebrate

A festive crowd turned out for Murph Dailey's 82nd birthday party at her Mokuleia home last Saturday. Guests had a ball, swinging and Mug shotrocking out to the music of Roshan Kumar, Larry Cook and Glenn Collen, and dining on food from Ed Tracy's Seaview Catering. "All the wonderful things friends do and those wonderful memories keep me going," Murph said. Her late husband was Fred Dailey, known as "Mr. Polo" in Hawaii. Their son, Mike, and grandson, Devon, 16, star in polo matches at Waimanalo today. "Having been married to the greatest guy in the world for 50 years, I never run out of great memories. And I have a son who carries on with the same hoomalimali," Murph said ... Roosevelt classmates, Lila Lee and Miki Beamer had birthdays recently. Lila's party was at the Chart House on Dec. 1 and Miki's at Natsunoya Tea House Tuesday. Whenever Beamers gather, there is plenty of fun, singing and hula. Kualoa -- Jimmy Lota, Speedy Bailey and Kaipo Asing -- played music and Nalani kele jones, Eileen Lota and Amelia Bailey danced ...

Steiny's alive and well

"DID my obituary appear in your paper recently?" asked Frank Steinmiller. Seems the Social Security people stopped sending "Steiny" his monthly check. They thought he was a goner. The latest Mandarin addition is Kumi Iseki's Tokyo Tokyo Japanese restaurant, which opens tomorrow. Heavy use of wood and bamboo is incorporated in the handsome design by Kumi and friends. The restaurant has a robata-yaki bar where food is cooked on skewers in front of guests. There is also dining on the lanai and in two tatami rooms. Kevin Hee, formerly of Hoku's, is manager, assisted by Lorin Watada. Chefs from Tokyo are Shigeto Yagi and Takayuki Matsumoto ...

Singers, musicians at Neiman

Neiman Marcus was jumping Tuesday during its InCircle party. Singers Sydette Sakauye, DisGuyz, Kristian Lei, Honolulu Madrigal Quartet, harpist Sharene Boulas and Charlene Ide on the flute entertained. Beverage and food stations were set up in the store and models strolled about. Al Tomonari, store boss, must have been pleased, as he was smiling. Leah Bernstein of Mountain Apple records joked that since it was her birthday, it was her party. Right, Leah ...
