UH divers make
splash at BYU meet

Sarah Farr, a sophomore at the University of Hawaii, won the women's 3-meter and 10-meter platform diving competition at the Brigham Young University Diving Invitational last weekend.

Farr scored 533.7 points and 195.25 points in the 3- and 10-meter events, respectively.

She also placed third in the 1-meter with a score of 262.95.

UH's Brooke Morgan was third in the 10-meter.

In the men's competition, freshman Michael Gowdy finished second in the 3- and 10-meter events with scores of 531.3 and 281.75, respectively. He was third in the 1-meter with a 328.0 total.

The next event is the Duke Kahanamoku Invitational on Friday at 4 p.m. at UH's Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.

Hawaii golfer honored

Russell Nygard has been named the Western Athletic Conference men's golf Player of the Month for November.

The University of Hawaii senior finished the fall season with his first collegiate tournament title at the Hawaii Fall Classic. He enters the spring campaign with a 75.43 stroke average.

Three days of speed

The three-day NAPA South Pacific Championships, the highlight of the drag racing season, is this weekend at Hawaii Raceway Park.

The "Fast Friday" street racing series starts the festivities Friday and includes qualifying for the "Goodyear Top Gun" series.

Saturday it's the finale of the "Budweiser Gold Cup" series, pro eliminators and junior dragsters.

Sunday, it's the finals of the "Silver Cup." Gates open at 6 p.m. Friday, 4 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday. For further information, call 841-3724.
