Vallejo plays hard rock with Latin seasoning.



Vallejo to
Hard Rock Waikiki

The Austin, Texas-based rock band Vallejo will play Waikiki's Hard Rock Cafe at 10 p.m. tomorrow.

The sextet comprises lead guitarist A.J. Vallejo, his twin, drummer Alejandro, and younger brother, bass and trumpet player Omar. Bruce Castleberry plays rhythm guitar for the group, Diego Simmons, percussion and Heath Clark, guitar.

The band has won acclaim for its loud and exuberant mixture of rap, mariachi, jazz, hard rock, Cuban pop and other styles.

Latin jazz at the Village

Latin and jazz music are on the bill Dec. 15 at Hawaii's Plantation Village in Waipahu.

Julia and the Latin Fire will play Puerto Rican kache-kache dance sounds from 6 to 8 p.m. Then Francis Ho'okano's Jazz Band will take over until 10 p.m. with Christmas melodies and jazz.

Tickets are $3 per person. A $5 food plate with pasteles, andagi, fried noodles and rice will be available. The Filipino Heritage Group will have parol nativity lanterns for sale and seniors will offer hand-crafted items for holiday gift-giving.
