Sea Warriors, Vulcans
lose tournament openers

Dusty Rychart scored 23 of his 34 points in the second half as Minnesota defeated Hawaii Pacific, 86-75, last night in the opening round of the HPU Thanksgiving Classic at the Blaisdell Arena.

Minnesota (3-0) went on a 22-8 run to end the first half and take an insurmountable lead.

Nick Spajic scored 16 points and Larz Stewart had 15 for the Division II Sea Warriors (1-1).

GEORGETOWN 77, C. FLORIDA 65:

Mike Sweetney scored 13 of his 19 points in the second half as the Hoyas (2-0) beat the Golden Knights (0-1).

TCU 111, SIENA 91:

Greedy Daniels had 24 points and seven steals as the Horned Frogs (3-0) topped the Saints (1-1).

COLL. OF CHARLESTON 69, DUQUESNE 66:

A.J. Harris hit two free throws with 11 seconds left to seal the victory for the Cougars (3-0) over the Dukes (2-1).



Big Island Invitational

TULANE 88, HAWAII-HILO 76:

Brandon Spann scored 23 points, including eight straight during a late-second-half spurt, to lead the Green Wave over the host Vulcans in first-round play.

The Division II Vulcans (0-1) stayed with the Green Wave (3-0) for most of the game. But Spann hit two 3-pointers and two free throws to break it open at 73-62.

Alan Thomas hit for 23 points to pace UH-Hilo.

OKLAHOMA 84, MONTANA ST. 76:

Aaron McGhee scored 32 points and Hollis Price added 23 as the 19th-ranked Sooners (3-0) held off the Bobcats (1-2).

LONG BEACH ST. 76, SAN FRANCISCO 74:

Lemi Williams banked in an 8-foot leaner with three seconds remaining to give the 49ers (2-1) a narrow win over the Dons (1-2).

OREGON ST. 60, APPALACHIAN ST. 37:

Jason Heide had 14 points and seven rebounds, leading the Beavers (3-0) to victory over the Mountaineers (0-1).



Division II

BYU-HAWAII 84, CARLETON 64:

At Laie, Kerry Hendrickson's game-high 21 points helped Ken Wagner post his 200th victory in 11 seasons as the Seasiders' coach.
