Back in the Day

FIVE YEARS AGO THIS WEEK

Bullet St. Louis survived its toughest Prep Bowl challenge during its 13-year streak -- edging Kahuku, 27-26, in front of 29,129 fans at Aloha Stadium. Kahuku scored in the third quarter to take a 26-20 lead, and 6-foot-5, 225-pound tight end Sakalia Magalei was stopped at the goal line on a two-point attempt. St. Louis senior Darnell Arceneaux ran for an 8-yard score at the end of the third, and Brad Dickenson kicked the critical PAT.

TWENTY-SEVEN YEARS AGO THIS WEEK

Bullet Waianae won the first u Prep Bowl, 6-0, over St. Louis at Honolulu Stadium the day after Thanksgiving, when Victor Humalon connected with William Pimentel for an 11-yard score with 1:20 left in the game. The winning drive was set up after the Crusaders gambled on 4th-and-5 from their own 45 -- and a pass fell incomplete.
