analysis

An ex-HPD officer, now in Oregon,
was involved in the fatal wreck

The police negligent-homicide investigation into a fatal Oct. 7 collision on Pali Highway involving an off-duty officer could be completed by the end of the month.

Internal Affairs Lt. Gregory Poole, who is overseeing the criminal probe, says traffic investigators are waiting for a crash analysis report from a California-based consultant.

Once the report is reviewed, police will confer with prosecutors who will decide on a possible indictment of retired police office Clyde Arakawa.

Arakawa, who retired from the Honolulu Police Department at the end of last month, is now living in Oregon.

He was arrested for negligent homicide and driving under the influence following the late-night collision at Pali Highway and School Street that killed 19-year-old Dana Ambrose.
