UH men’s volleyball
scrimmage set

The University of Hawaii men's volleyball team will have an intrasquad scrimmage tomorrow at 7 p.m. in the Pearl City High School gym.

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students (grades kindergarten through 12). Children 4 years and under will be admitted free.

UH women finish last

Hawaii finished last in the 15-team Rainbow Wahine Fall Classic yesterday at Kapolei Golf Course.

The UH team had a 54-hole total of 987, compared to 889 for tournament champion UCLA.

Melanie Matsumura shot a 5-over-par 77 yesterday for a 236 total and a share of 36th place, the best finish among the Wahine.

State football ticket sales

Tickets for the 2000 Chevron State Football Championship playoffs will be sold at participating Chevron stations statewide through Dec. 1.

Prices are $7 for adults and $5 for youths. Save $1 each on up to four tickets with the purchase of Chevron gasoline with Techron or any Pepsi product.

Quarterfinal playoff games are scheduled for Friday, Nov. 17, at Aloha Stadium (doubleheader), Hilo's Francis Wong Stadium and Maui War Memorial Stadium.

The semifinals are Friday, Nov. 24, and the championship game is Friday, Dec. 1, all at Aloha Stadium.

Chevron Hawaii is the title sponsor of the state football tournament in partnership with the Hawaii High School Athletic Association.

Punahou, HBA take titles

The Punahou Gold boys and girls won ILH junior varsity tennis championships Tuesday while the girls of Hawaii Baptist Academy took the small schools title.

Punahou Gold defeated Punahou Blue, 3-2, for the boys' JV title and Punahou Gold beat Iolani, 3-2, in the girls' final.

Members of the winning teams are:

Punahou Gold boys -- Henry Athens, Eric Bingham, Thomas Chan, Jonathan Farm, Timmy Fong, Yuto Kakuta, Linden Lee, Matt Lee, Nick Leong, Robbie Lim, D.J. Nakakura, Kevin Shimmon and coaches Scott Aquino and Gary Sakuma.

Punahou Gold girls -- Berneta Asato, Rusti Fujisako, Krystina Katayama, Nicole Mau, Ai Mikami, Lina Miyakawa, Tiffany Nakamura, Lisa Nakasone, Lauren Paer, Crystal Shimabukuro, Catherine Sypert, Sharolyn Tamashiro, manager Paula Fried and coaches Natalie Lum and Stacey Panui.

HBA girls -- Lauren Asato, Donna Au, Lauren Furuya, Lisa Hiranaka, Stella Ko, Kelly Lawton, Casie Nakagawa, Karlyn Oyama, Christy Park, Ashley Sutherland, Stacie Suzuki, Maricela Yee and coaches Nancy Lloyd and Andy Young.

Defensive honors to Rocho

Central Michigan senior Jessica Rocho, a University High graduate from Honolulu, was named the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week in volleyball yesterday.

Rocho led the Chippewas to two victories without a loss last week. She had career highs of 69 assists and 32 digs in a 3-1 win over Ohio.

Kendo tournament

The All Hawaii Kendo Championships will be held Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the second floor of the Ala Wai Golf Course clubhouse.

Admission is free.

Castro is Lewis-Clark starter

Former Moanalua High School standout Issac Castro is a returning starter on the Lewis-Clark State men's basketball team.

Castro averaged 10.1 points a game last season for the Warriors, who finished in the NAIA Sweet 16 with a 20-9 record.

They are 16th nationally in this year's NAIA preseason rankings.

Indoor soccer deadline

The entry deadline for SAY Soccer's winter indoor season is Nov. 13. The season runs from Jan. 6 to March 17.

The league is open to boys' and girls' teams, ages 5 to 19. The cost per team is $200.

Baseball clinic at Mid-Pac

Pro-Performance, Inc. will hold an advanced pitching, hitting and defense baseball clinic Nov. 23-25 at the Mid-Pacific Institute Field.

Instructors are Coop DeRenne, Rich Olsen, Joey Vierra, Paul Brown, Keoni DeRenne and Keith Komeiji.

The cost is $150 and includes two videos produced by Coop DeRenne. Applications are available at Westport, Rainbow Sports and McCully Bike & Sports.
