THE BIG GAMES

St. Louis-Kamehameha II on tap

FOOTBALL: The Oahu Interscholastic Association has reached its semifinals; on Friday, Waianae plays Castle and Kahuku meets Kaimuki at Aloha Stadium.

But the really big game is St. Louis vs. Kamehameha, Round II, on Saturday. Some think these are really the top two teams in the state. They meet Saturday, 7:45 p.m., at Aloha Stadium.

The first go-round, the Crusaders beat the Warriors, 31-6. If St. Louis wins again, it clinches the Interscholastic League of Honolulu championship and accompanying state berth. If Kamehameha wins, it takes the ILH second-round title, and the teams playoff for the league title next week.

VOLLEYBALL: The OIA boys' and girls' semifinals are tomorrow at the Blaisdell Center, starting at 4 p.m. The OIA title games are Saturday, with the boys playing at 5:30 p.m. and the girls at 7 p.m.

Twelve national finalists will be invited to New York City to participate in the Heisman Trophy festivities next month and the winners will be chosen Dec. 8. ... The Punahou girls' volleyball team is No. 19 in the Pacific Region in the HighWiredSports.com volleyball rankings. St. Francis slipped five notches to No. 21 in the Pacific.

Punahou to face St. Louis for
second-round volleyball title

Punahou rallied from two games down to beat Kamehameha last night in an Interscholastic League of Honolulu boys' volleyball playoff match at Iolani.

The Buffanblu won, 10-15, 11-15, 15-12, 15-11, 15-13, as the two teams met for the third time in October.

Punahou and St. Louis meet tomorrow at 5 p.m. at Damien for the second-round title -- and a berth in the state tournament.

The winner of that match plays Kamehameha on Saturday for the overall ILH championship.

The match at Damien starts at 5 p.m.
