U.S. wrestler to
speak at QB club

Brandon Slay, a U.S. wrestler who earned a gold medal at the Sydney Olympic Games, will be a guest speaker at the Honolulu Quarterback Club on Monday.

Other speakers include University of Hawaii head football coach June Jones, UH wide receivers coach Ron Lee and UH men's head basketball coach Riley Wallace.

Slay was awarded the gold medal when another wrestler was disqualified after testing positive for a banned substance. He will be in Honolulu to give clinics for wrestlers and coaches next week.

The luncheon begins at 11:30 a.m. at the Pagoda Restaurant.

Hula Bowl picks charity

The Ronald McDonald House Charities-Hawaii has been chosen as a major beneficiary of the 2001 Hula Bowl on Maui.

"We are delighted to have the opportunity to continue involvement with the RMHC-Hawaii," said Lenny Klompus, the game's CEO. "It's a wonderful organization that promotes giving back to the community."

The Hula Bowl is scheduled for Jan. 20, 2001 at the War Memorial Stadium on Maui at 3 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased by calling 871-4141.

A portion of every ticket sold to the game will be donated to RMHC-Hawaii.

Vulcans lose in five

Marnie Grant and Sara Pilgreen recorded season-high kill efforts but it wasn't enough as the University of Hawaii-Hilo women's volleyball team fell to Western New Mexico in last night's Pacific West match, 12-15, 12-15, 15-12, 16-14, 17-15.

Grant had 20 kills and Pilgreen 19 in the match at UHH gym that lasted 2 hours, 45 minutes.

The Vulcans fell to 6-14 overall, 2-10 in PacWest. The Mustangs got 18 kills and 23 digs from Dana Dietrich to improve to 13-12, 3-9.

Swords win marathon

Audrey Brady put down 29 kills to lead Chaminade to a 13-15, 15-13, 15-12, 6-15, 15-11 victory over Montana State-Billings last night in a Pacific West women's volleyball match at McCabe Gym.

Juliann Hastert added 18 kills and 29 digs for the Silverswords in the match that lasted 2 hours, 35 minutes.

Angie Hopes had 27 kills and Tegan Harris 19 for the Yellowjackets.
