Magicians gathered in the mayor's office to publicize
a magic convention next week and Hawaii Magic
Week 2000, which runs from Monday until Nov. 5
and marks the death of Harry Houdini. The week
of community demonstrations will wrap up with
the Magic and Comedy Blast! Nov. 5 at

Cooperative fun at
the Harvest Festival

Above, a game at the Urban Garden Center in Pearl City
puts the teamwork skills of children from Webling
Elementary School to the test. The bungee-cord
ring in the center had to be carefully stretched,
using the dozen ropes radiating outward. The
children had to pick up the can shown below
the bungee ring and water a nearby plant. The
Webling students were among some 450 kids
from six public and private schools who came
for the Harvest Festival at the center at 962
Second St. Students were able to pick corn
and soybeans -- and eat them -- and play games,
as well as taste things like a tofu and milk drink.

of corn. The Urban Garden Center offers classes

Cupid appears
in Kaimuki

Alden Isom, 1, as Cupid, participated yesterday in a
costume parade at Kaimuki Park. The event, sponsored
by Kaimuki businesses, gave onlookers a sneak preview
of Halloween costumes.
Below, 3-year-old Felicia Terao was a glamorous witch.
