HPD hot line can
handle drug dealers

Question: Please help! There has been drug activity in our Kalihi neighborhood for quite some time now. Vehicle and foot traffic are very heavy at the beginning of the month. Most nights, people are standing around on the street. From what people have said, a police officer and/or prison guard may be involved. I'm too scared to get involved directly so can you please notify the proper authorities?

Q: There's a house in Pearl City that should be looked into. Every so often, cars seem to stop and leave after a short while. The smell of marijuana can be smelled while jogging past the garage.

Seems like the parents of the young man living there are aware of his activities but don't do anything about it. Can you help?

Answer: We passed on both complaints, with specific addresses, to the Honolulu Police Department.

For the future, call HPD's 24-hour hot line, 529-3101, to report such suspicions.

Provide as much information as possible, including a description of the suspicious persons, vehicles and activities, as well as times and days of such activities, said HPD spokeswoman Michelle Yu.

Also, indicate if you've witnessed any exchanges of money or packages, she said.

Names will be kept confidential, but it also would help if callers left a name and contact number in case police need more information, Yu said.

Sega Genesis update

We received several leads in response to a reader's plea for help in finding game cartridges for the old Sega Genesis game system, including checking Software Etc. at Windward Mall; Waipahu Hawaii Pawn in the Waipahu Shopping Plaza; Big KMart's electronics section in Waikele; Toys & Joys in Kaimuki; and the flea market at Aloha Stadium on Sundays, where, according to one caller, "a seller sells used video games in B Row."

Another caller suggested going online at www.amazon.com, clicking on "video games," then "more systems." He said that was the only place he could find an old game for his nephew's Game Boy.

John Kim was willing to divulge his "secret place" to help out, saying the Kaneohe Pawn Shop, at 45-1055 Kamehameha Hwy., "has 'em all, as well as many other oddball and 'obsolete' gaming components."

In fact, Kim was so eloquent in his praise, we'll let you read it in his words: "Al and Lori Higa, the nicest couple you'll ever meet, try to accommodate kids from all over the island who they understand are on the typical budget. My heretofore secret place for these Sega Genesis oldies is now out of the bag, but perhaps this way we'll have a larger, more active selection with more Sega fans coming in doing active trades."

He said the Higas have "a soft touch for kids who buy, sell and trade these cartridges, making their inventory one of the best in price, volume and series in the islands."

Youngsters doing any selling must be accompanied by their parents, Kim said, adding that he's not related to the Higas in any way.

Auwe

To an elderly male driver of a two-door white Mazda who was observed throwing a banana peel out of his window at 3:45 p.m. Oct. 12, while stopped at the Kalihi and Nimitz intersection. I hope police will someday catch up with your littering. Hawaii doesn't need more litter. -- No Name
