Reading honors
poet Westlake

Richard Hamasaki will read poetry from his recent collection, "From the Spider Bone Diaries: Poems and Songs," at 7 p.m. Nov. 9 at Native Books.

The reading and a related art exhibit are in honor of the late poet, Wayne Westlake.

Hamasaki, who calls himself a cultural activist, has been involved in the island literary scene since 1974. He and Westlake founded and taught a course on ethnic literature in Hawaii at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He also taught in public schools and now teaches secondary English at Kamehameha Schools.

Guest readers will include Joe Balaz, Kathryn Takara, Rodney Morales and Imaikalani Kalahele.
