The other major citation is the John Dominis Holt Award for an individual who best exemplified the art and craft of book publishing in Hawaii. This year the Holt award is given posthumously to George Kanahele, educator, author and Hawaiiana booster.

"George was one of the islands' own; I adored him," said publisher and distributor Maile Meyer of Native Books. "He not only put the islands' point of view into publishing, he raised it to the level of scholarship.

"He not only met standards across the board, he raised the standards for the rest of us."
