TULSA, Okla. -- If the University of Hawaii women's soccer team is to win a game on the road this season, it will have to happen in the Western Athletic Conference tournament.
But chances of Hawaii qualifying for that tournament are slim.
In all probability, UH will have to win home matches Thursday against Texas Christian and Sunday against No. 14 Southern Methodist to keep the postseason hopes alive.
"We play well at home and I'm looking forward to those matches," Hawaii head coach Pinsoom Tenzing said.
Yesterday, the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles dealt the Wahine their eighth consecutive 2000 road loss, 4-0, in a nonconference match played in rain and mud.
"We tried giving everyone playing time and there were two other factors," Tenzing said.
"One, Arlene Devitt got her fifth yellow card Sunday and had to sit out. Two, Demarre Sanchez got hurt again although the trainer thinks Demarre will be able to play this week."
With Sanchez out, Veronica Flores moved back to goalkeeper. That left the Wahine (4-11-2) without their top two goal scorers.
"All the goals were freaky," said Tenzing. "I'll give you an example. The ball comes rolling back to Liz (Lusk). She goes to kick it and misses and they score."
In eight road matches this season, the Wahine were outscored, 24-7.
In the program's first six seasons, Hawaii never failed to win at least one road match. UH's all-time road record is 19-47-3 (.297).
At home, UH is 26-26-5 (.500).
The Wahine will play TCU (8-7-1 overall, 3-2-0 WAC) at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
