Smooth sailing
for Cypriano

Singer Nohelani Cypriano's upbeat Navatek dinner show has something for everyone. And everyone, including guests and waiters, Mug shothas the chance to participate. The versatile and talented Nohelani, backed by musician-singers Carlos Barboza, L.D. Cabral and Eddie Maligmat and five hula dancers, serves up a mixed plate of Hawaiian, Tahitian and pop numbers, along with some Ricky Martin and Elvis. Jonathon Von Brana, who also has a show on board, dropped in to impersonate Elvis Tuesday. The audience snakes through the room in a conga line, and guests may take to the stage for a mambo lesson. Much of the show is tourist oriented, but locals shouldn't let that keep them away. It's a fun night. And the view of Honolulu city lights from the sea is magnificent. The Navatek was renovated to the tune of $1 million. Its "relaunch" was Tuesday ...

Swiss Inn ownership changing

It looks as if Swiss Inn at Niu Valley will change ownership after the last supper on Sunday, Oct. 29. Chef-owner Martin Wyss is teaching chef Tui Nguyen the ropes, and Martin's wife and sister-in-law, Jeanie Wyss and Sharon Fujii, also co-owners, are introducing Tri Nguyen to diners. The brothers are buying. Format and menu will remain the same. Tui's wife, Thip, will handle the guests as Jeanie and Sharon have done so well for 16 years. The principals are awaiting a promised new lease before the sale is a done deal ...
